Double rejection to double perfection for Burke

It has been a crazy week for Chris Burke with two transfer bids from Forest rejected, a call up to the Scotland squad and now a match winning brace against the team that tried to sign him, leaving Blues’ former manager Alex McLeish with only one win in his first six league games in charge.

McLeish’s strategy seem to work well during the first half an hour as early chances by Billy Sharp and Greg Halford forced good saves from Jack Butland which put Birmingham on the back foot and created a sense of anxiety around the St. Andrews, even with the songs being sung by the home support about their former manager.

Against the run of play, Birmingham took advantage of one of their only opportunities just before half time. Chris Burke cut inside off the touch-line and sweetly hit his shot from 25 yards out just over Karl Darlow, which went in off the crossbar for his third goal of the season.
It was clear the goal had given the Scottish winger more confidence in the second half as he made the Forest left back Dan Harding’s afternoon a living hell with mazy dribbles throughout the second half.

The brilliance of Redmond created his second goal, however, as the teenager took on two defenders before pulling back a low cross for Burke to fire home for Blues’ first win at St. Andrews since November.

In the dying embers of the game Billy Sharp scored a consolation from the spot for Forest after he had been tripped by Curtis Davies but there was not enough time left for the travelling side to find an equaliser.

Man of the match: Chris Burke
