Marlon’s magic, Marney’s misery

A venomous volley by Marlon King earned Lee Clark their first three points of 2013, leaving Sean Dyche and Dean Marney livid with a dubious red card that they felt cost them the game.

Just after the 20 minute mark Blues opened the scoring thanks to a great header by Curtis Davies. A near post corner by Rob Hall was headed home by the centre half into the bottom corner for his fifth league goal of the season.

With the words of their manager ringing in their ears, Burnley started brightly as Danny Ings missed a glorious chance as his great run in to the penalty area was found by the head Sam Vokes but hit the crossbar with a thunderous effort.

The Clarets took advantage of their pressure six minutes later as Junior Stanislas was caught on the edge of the box by Paul Robinson and a penalty was awarded, the fourth Blues have conceded since Boxing Day. Ross Wallace stepped and calmly hit his penalty down the middle after waiting for Butland to make the first move.

Dean Marney had made several fouls that could have seen him in the referee’s book but not long after the equaliser the midfielder was sent off by Drysdale for a tackle on Paul Robinson, deemed as excessive force.

In the dying embers of the game Birmingham made their numerical advantage count. Wade Elliott crossed from the right side of the box to Zigic who helped the ball on to King at the back post. The striker fired home his volley into the bottom corner to give Birmingham the lead with just 30 seconds remaining.
