The Bluenose Bible: Match Report Charlton away
Wade Elliott’s late equaliser heaps more misery on The Addicks
For the third successive game, Charlton failed to keep hold of a lead as Wade Elliott cancelled out Yann Kermorgant’s goal in the last minute of injury time.
The early stages belonged to the travelling side as Chris Burke and Marlon King had long range chances that failed to test Ben Hamer and the Charlton defence; but the chances suggested Birmingham were full of confidence and not just lucking for a point from their trip to London.
However, the hosts grew into the game after the first ten minutes as chances by Ricardo Fuller and Yann Kermorgant kept Jack Butland on his toes during the first half.
Blues’ also defended solidly like their England international goalkeeper during the opening 45 minutes as a shot by Dale Stephens from a smart corner routine was superbly blocked by Callum Reilly, who was a played with his never-say-die attitude throughout.
Charlton brought their first half momentum into the second with a chance from Danny Green was instinctively stopped by man of the match Butland at his near post.
The deadlock was finally broken with just under five minutes to go as a great deep cross by Chris Solly was perfectly place behind the away sides defence for Yann Kermorgant to head home past static Butland to delight the Charlton bench and crowd.
With just seconds remaining and the home fans whistling for the referee to end the match, Birmingham piled on the pressure and secured a point and maintained their 5 match unbeaten record as Wade Elliott prodded in from close range following a drilled cross by Chris Burke.
