Statement Form the Board
In light of the January transfer window closing, the Board of Birmingham City Football Club would like to clarify certain matters to allay supporters’ concerns.
Recent transfer activity set out to address the club’s current financial position, whilst not wholly diminishing Lee Clark’s playing squad. This was achieved through the negotiation of the loan back of Jack Butland from Stoke City and bolstering the squad further with the loan of striker Wes Thomas from AFC Bournemouth.
Prior to the January window opening, acting chairman Peter Pannu publicly stated that the club would listen to sensible offers for players but this was translated in some quarters as the entire squad being ‘up for sale’.
As has been shown in recent days by the rejection of several bids for key players that didn’t meet the club’s own valuation, the situation wasn’t as bleak as some had reported.
To clarify, the club remains actively up for sale and this process continues in earnest.
While remaining in daily contact with senior management at St. Andrew’s, Mr Pannu is currently in Hong Kong attending to matters at the parent company with a view to the resumption in trading of its shares, which is ultimately what is needed for the sale of the club to progress.
